Research in human behavioral ecology at CHES examines how ecological conditions, social structure, and cultural systems shape human behavior. Ongoing projects investigate cooperation, caregiving, generosity, social norms, disability, gendered social organization, and mutual aid using long-term fieldwork, cross-cultural comparison, experiments, and demographic approaches. This work focuses on living populations and addresses how behavior adapts to environmental, economic, and social constraints.
