CHES Graduate Affiliate Kristine Maassen has been selected as a recipient of the inaugural Rutgers Democracy Lab Summer Research Fellowship. Her fellowship project, "Sharing More Than Space: Democracy and Interdependence in Communal Living," examines how intentional communities, including communes, ecovillages, and cohousing communities, organize shared labor, collective decision-making, and mutual support. By studying how these communities sustain trust, participation, and shared responsibility over time, her research provides new insights into democratic engagement, community wellbeing, and the factors that support long-term collective action.
